Overview
Situated in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, Tun Razak Exchange (TRX) is a 70-acre development blending retail, commercial, and residential spaces. At its heart The Exchange is a six-level retail and dining hub topped with garden and activity spaces, including a 10-acre public park.
Büro North, working with Grimshaw Architects, DPA Architects and Oculus Landscape developed a wayfinding strategy to connect The Exchange within the TRX precinct. Our goal was to create a high-end system that encouraged exploration and seamlessly linked retail, park spaces, and the MRT station.
We focused on creating clear zones and streets within The Exchange, stacking these elements across each floor to provide an intuitive grid for visitors. This approach made it easy for people to navigate between shops and park areas. Distinct design languages for retail and park spaces ensured the signage complemented the architectural aesthetics.
The Exchange’s design redefines urban retail environments by integrating green spaces and promoting a vibrant public realm. This development reshapes the city, offering a cohesive space where people can shop, dine, and relax, fundamentally changing how they interact with urban retail spaces.
Our wayfinding system supports this transformation, enhancing connectivity and user experience while reflecting TRX’s architectural vision.
