Overview
Büro North collaborated with Architects Terroir and the Puffing Billy Railway to develop a user experience and interpretation strategy that enhances visitor engagement at the iconic tourist destination in the Dandenong Ranges.
A key component of the project was the new Discovery Centre at Emerald Lake Park, designed to serve train enthusiasts, park visitors, and tourists alike. The strategy focused on creating intuitive navigation through the complex building, which houses a café, retail, educational facilities, and visitor services. By connecting visitors with the surrounding landscape and the historic railway, Büro North’s approach ensured a seamless flow between the train platform and the Discovery Centre.
The spatial design, developed alongside Architects Terroir, fosters a unique experience that respects the heritage of the site while providing modern amenities. This integration of history, tourism, and nature offers a cohesive, enriching journey for all visitors.
