Overview
Büro North’s signage design for the Emergency Services Memorial in Melbourne’s Treasury Gardens enhances visitor engagement with this sacred and contemplative space. The memorial, dedicated to the courageous men and women of Victoria’s Emergency Services, integrates six organizations into a ‘garden memorial’ that contrasts with traditional sculpture-based memorials.
Our approach focuses on creating unobtrusive, respectful information that guides visitors through the memorial, encouraging personal reflection and interaction with the space. The carefully produced, hand-cast bronze signs provide context and information, subtly embedded into the landscape to maintain the garden’s natural aesthetic.
By using materials that complement the Victorian stonework and hand-sculpted bronze elements, the signage blends seamlessly with the surroundings, enhancing the memorial’s sense of history and gravity. This sensitive approach helps visitors navigate the space with ease, ensuring that the memorial remains a place of sanctuary, contemplation, and honour for families and the community, paying tribute to the dedication and sacrifice of Victoria’s emergency service personnel.
