Sunshine Coast University Hospital
The Sunshine Coast University Hospital is one of the largest hospitals in Australia, with over 738 beds serving the population of south-east Queensland. Situated north of Brisbane, the facility will enable over 10,000 people annually to remain in their community while accessing life-saving emergency, mental health, cancer treatment, intensive care, and maternity services.
Working with Lendlease, Architectus, and HDR, Büro North developed a comprehensive wayfinding strategy which enables patients, visitors, and staff to navigate the complex facility with ease. The design uses a combination of strong colour and simplified wayfinding terminology to create a clear hierarchy of information with an aesthetic sympathetic to the architecture. Linking these bold colours to the lift cores allows patients to develop a clear understanding of how the site is structured. The result is a facility which delivers a welcoming and supportive environment, that people can navigate in an independent and stress free manner.
