Respite Centre

Jewish Care provide support and enhanced wellbeing to Victoria’s Jewish community. As part of this mission, Jewish Care have delivered a new Disability Respite Centre which creates a welcoming and calming environment for patients with diverse needs.
Designed by Jackson Clements Burrows, the facility will house residents in a fluid, striking, domestic space. The challenge was to create a space which delivered clinical healthcare while also feeling homely. Büro North created a wayfinding system which promoted comfort and relaxation through simple, attractive, and integrated signage. In addition, we created an extensible donor recognition system which balanced the different levels of recognition.
Our design response works with the architectural palette and formal language to deliver a clean, crisp, and flowing signage language with subtle references to Jewish iconography. The donor recognition poles simplify a complex information hierarchy into a pleasing sculptural form, and help create an engaging environment for the facility’s residents.
