Büro North developed a comprehensive wayfinding and signage system for Westfield’s flagship store in Sydney’s CBD, a premier retail destination serving over 21 million shoppers annually.
The wayfinding strategy addressed the complexities of seven levels of retail, incorporating bridge and tunnel connections to adjacent buildings, and managing the impact of surrounding pedestrian traffic on major entrances.
Büro North’s solution included elegant façade signs, directional signs, and interactive kiosks featuring multilingual interfaces, designed to assist in seamless navigation. The kiosk design was executed with minimalist aesthetics, ensuring a sleek integration with the John Wardle Architects-designed façade and Wonderwall Japan-designed interiors. Additionally, heritage interpretive elements were incorporated, such as site-specific quotes and an illuminated timeline tracking the history of the site. This project not only improved shopper experience through clear navigation but also achieved sustainability goals, contributing to the development’s 6-star Green Star Design rating.
