Supporting inclusivity with seamless navigation in a community-focused space

Büro North collaborated with BAU Architects and Urbanists and Grant Amon Architects to develop the wayfinding system for the Victorian Pride Centre, Australia’s first purpose-built LGBTQ+ community hub.

Located in Melbourne’s St Kilda, the five-storey centre provides safe spaces and essential services for the queer community. Büro North’s wayfinding strategy was designed to support the unique architecture of the building, ensuring clear, intuitive navigation through its diverse spaces, including workspaces, health and welfare centres, galleries, and theatres.

The system incorporates both functional and aesthetic elements, guiding visitors from the street-facing terraces to the interior’s sculptural zones and communal areas. By focusing on accessibility and inclusivity, the wayfinding package enhances the visitor experience, making the Victorian Pride Centre a welcoming and easily navigable space for all. The design also accommodates future expansions, ensuring the wayfinding system evolves alongside the centre’s growth.
